Secrets of the South

In addition to podcasts and live events, Untold Frequencies is also producing several scripted radio shows. Currently we are accepting auditions for Secrets of the South, a mystery drama with each episode set in two separate timelines.

In 2004 a young couple, Meg and Milt, uncover a mysterious lockbox while replacing their wooden floors. Meanwhile, in Miami in 1973, two rogue cops risk it all on a case that reveals the origins of the contents of the lockbox.

Seeking Submissions for the Following Roles:

  • RICK : The retired detective is rough and worn like a well-read book. His words dance around your ears jumbling them up and making you lose sight of his true intentions. He worked on a case back in the mid-70s with a partner, James Mcintyre, they were following a case on the capos of a Miami cartel. After the case goes south with a rogue mistress his partner runs off with whatever was causing the problem. For thirty years Rick hunted for where his partner ran off to, ignoring his daughter the entire time. His charismatic and deceptive nature is the poison that will hurt all of our leading characters. This character appears in two timelines; in the 70s he is in his thirties and in 2004 he is in his early sixties.
  • MEG : Our female protagonist of the story is the driving force in her marriage to Milton. She pushed for the move, the location, and to divulge the true secrets of the chest of treasures, but she has many secrets of her own. When the knocking on her door is her long-estranged father Rick Ramirez she keeps her husband Milton in the dark. It becomes a hidden race and deeper for her to uncover these secrets, because if her father is interested she damn well needs to be. In her mid-thirties, she dresses vivaciously to match her spirit. You can hear her words crackle like a birch log on the fire.
  • DEYSI : The powerfully manipulative mistress of our 70s cartel and mother to Meg. A voice of foreign sil with more mystery than a Sherlock Holmes novel. She uses her charm and seductive looks to move Miami around her, tricking the cartel and Rick himself. She works out a plan with James but is lost to the final details of his disappearance, she eventually ends up in Roanoke pursuing Rick’s leads. Now in her late sixties but still a seductress, she works her way through each town hunting down the treasure as well.
  • LYDIA : The woman Milt was having an affair with prior to the start of the show. She is in her late 20s to early 30s. A deeper, strong voice that has a subtle layer of intrigue and sarcasm. Imagine if Greek statues had voices.
  • ROY : An Indian friend of Milt, a computer science whiz who currently works as a freelance SEO by contract. He is Indian but should not be overly accented. Just a trace of his heritage is fine. Play with this in several ways.
  • CLARISSA : She runs an Etsy shop for dog necklaces and other dog beauty items. Think valley girl from middle America.
  •  HANK : A gruff biker of a man in his mid-30s. Tires on gravel kind of voice.
  • CRIX : An old Southern black man who runs a coffee shop and is an informant for Ramirez. 70s.
  • ANTONIO : The grandson of the capo trying to prove his worth to his family by recovering the gold. Modern-day punk wannabe gangster but with actual connections.
  • TELLER : Early twenties – looking for anything here.
  • CHIEF HARDING : The chief of police in Miami in 1973. Aged 50s, black, angry.
  • NATHAN : A rookie cop who has a stutter.
  • HUGGINS : A thug.
  • SILENCIO : Late thirties capo in the Cuban drug trade who ran Miami in 1973. Heartless.
  • GARRY : Friendly local weirdo who runs a pawn shop. Looking for something fun.
